    One letter from British artist Alice Macallan Swan to Helen Allingham, apologizing for not being able to come visit. Swan writes she has been ill, but is getting better and the pain is going away. She expresses her regret for not being able to visit with Helen and Mrs. Whitey, because of the influenza. In a postscript, Swan writes that she knows Helen is busy so she should not bother writing back.

    One letter from English sculptor Hamo Thornycroft to Helen Allingham, returning an enclosed document which he has signed, and expresses his regret at hearing Helen is suffering from the flu. Thornycroft, sharing his own experience with the flu, urges Helen to avoid exerting herself so soon after she recovers. He thanks Helen for her inquiry of his daughter's well-being and shares that she has returned to school.

    One letter from British artist William Eyre Walker to Helen Allingham, thanking Helen for her kind letter from two weeks prior. Walker thanks Helen and fellow artist Robert Anning Bell for thinking of him for a house at Milton. Walker shares he and his wife require less space now and a home which does not require so much upkeep. He mentions how happy Helen must be amongst the cottages in the English countryside which she paints.

    One letter from British painter Joseph Walter West to Helen Allingham, thanking Helen for the painting she sent, which arrived Saturday. West shares both he and his family will enjoy it. West also notes Helen appears to have a forgiving spirit and has overlooked his obstinacy over not "letting out," his girls' dresses in the drawing at the old society. West's letter is written on monogrammed paper, containing the image of a boat and the name West. The monogram contains a decorative initial for the letter 'D'.

    One letter from Henry Allingham to his mother Helen Allingham, from the SS Duke of Buckingham, writing about his trip thus far which he explains has been rather monotonous. He writes about passing the coasts of Spain and Africa where they saw many beautiful birds. He explains visiting the main engine room of the ship and seeing the furnaces. In a postscript, Henry writes that they have not been closer to land than 3 miles.

    One letter and accompanying envelope from English biographer John Forster to British poet Edward Moxon, acting as an introduction for William Allingham. Forster explains Allingham's interest in having Moxon publish his work. There is a note in the upper right-hand corner which states that the note of introduction was never used. The corresponding envelope is addressed to Edward Moxon, in Piccadilly and is labeled "To introduce Mr. Allingham.

She also asks if the Allingham's would be able to host her for a visit next summer. She writes that she spent her Christmas with her eldest son. The letter is written on monogrammed stationery with an image of the Crawshay home, Cyfartha Castle.

She hopes that Mrs. Allingham is well, and that she might meet the child when she comes to town. She provides updates on her friends, Mrs. Paulet and Miss Newton. In a postscript, Jewsbury seeks to introduce them to a Greek friend of Mrs. Inwood Jones, named Gennarius, who has written several articles for The Athenaeum.

Henry mentions changes he plans to implement on his Buckboard. Henry also discusses the experience he is gaining at his position with Morse Chain Co.

Le premier cahier étant perdu, il commence au § 10 du livre I « prima conflictio » et offre des lacunes qui devaient se trouver dans le modèle (I, § 62-76 et II, 170-175) puisqu'elles se retrouvent dans le Sangallensis 820 (voy. pl. XVIII, 1°) et, avec quelques différences, dans la seconde partie du Paris. 7774 A (voy. pl. XXXI, 1°). Décrit par Oeggius (1. c. I, p. 524) et par Anton Lins- mayer, Variae lectiones ad Ciceronis librum primum de inventione (Halm, Analect. Tulliana, 1852, fasc. 2), p. v-vi, il est désigné par V dans l'édition de Andr. Weidner (M. Tullii Ciceronis artis rhetoricae libri duo, Berl. 1878) et par H dans celle de Guil. Friedrich (Cic. Rhetorica, pars 1. Lips. 1884). Le f° 70 reproduit ici contient: « Hunc pater... quamvis omni » (De inventione, II, xvii, 52-53).

Volume de 162 feuillets (mes. 0, 32 sur 0, 23) contenant: César, De bello Gallico, De b. civili, puis De bello Alexandrino, De b. Africano et De b. Hispaniensi. Il a souffert plusieurs mutilations, entre autres au commencement qui se trouve devenir: « Rhodanus fluit» (B. G. I, 6, 3). Ce manuscrit, décrit dans le Catalogue de Bandini, n'est pas mentionné dans les éditions modernes de César. Son texte semble se rapprocher de la première classe. La lacune de la fin du livre VIII, 51-52 « Exceptus est Caesaris adventus... cum esset » a été réparée après les mots « quam belligerendi ». (« Contendit » est omis comme dans le Moysiacensis et les manuscrits de la seconde classe). Le f° 32 v° reproduit ici contient: De bello Gallico, V, 13, 6—17, 2, depuis « sunt objecta terra, sed ejus angulus lateris » jusqu'à « sic uti ab signis legionibusque ».

    One letter from Henry Allingham to his mother Helen Allingham, writing with news of the last fortnight. Henry writes about visiting the Chemical Fair held in Trumansburg. He also discusses the differences in class distinctions between American and English society. Henry describes many of the acquaintances he has met, and his social outings. Henry mentions Mr. Morse will be visiting London, and encourages him to travel to Hampstead to call on Helen. Henry asks Helen to give Mr. Morse a book of his father's poems he may read during his free time.
