    Description
    Hardy Cross Papers (Digital Surrogates), 1930, contains a digitized copy of Cross' paper "Analysis of Continuous Frames by Distributing Fixed-end Moments" included in the May 1930 Proceedings of the American Society of Civil Engineers. This paper contributed refining and simplifying the mathematical work required to analyze elements of statically indeterminate buildings and bridges. It was one of Cross' major contributions to the field of structural engineering, and reshaped formal structural analysis for the next 30 years until computers started to enter the scene; his paper of eight pages on moment distribution led to 144 pages of discussion. The digitized copy includes an autograph of Hardy Cross in the front page. Materials also include .JPG images of Cross' article, divided by page. Access to these images is available upon request.

    Description
    The digitized content of the Carrie E. Ober Letter consists of one letter from Carrie Ober to her cousin, Isa. Carrie E. Ober and her husband, Albert Ober, moved from Beverly, Massachusetts, to Three Oaks, Michigan, around 1870. The recipient of her letter, Carrie’s cousin Ida, lived in Massachusetts. Three Oaks is a village in Southwest Michigan that had a stop on a high-traffic route of the Michigan Central Railroad. The digitized content contains one letter dated October 14, 1871, from Carrie Ober to her cousin, Isa. The letter describes the outbreak of fires in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Illinois, including the Great Chicago Fire, and recounts details such as causalities and acres of land burned. The Illinois History and Lincoln Collections unit at the University of Illinois Library manages the physical items of the Carrie E. Ober Letter (MS 1059). The preserved materials comprise an index of textual documents from the records of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and or/other public (i.e. Internet-accessible) resources such as news articles, blog postings, and public tweets. The index organizes these materials by type of material, and chronologically by date of creation thereunder. Phys.
